Demonym:
Aeonian

History:
The Country of Aeonia has a history of civil war. As a meritocracy, this is unsurprising; conflicting viewpoints mean that more than one party may believe the ‘best’ way for Aeonia to be run is according to their wishes. The one thing that has been agreed upon is that no-one wants to see the country in a weakened state, to be captured by foreign invaders. Past Incidents of Katpatukan raiding parties kidnapping groups of Aeonians as slaves therefore remain like a wound in the Nation’s mind. Therefore, a system of civilised warfare has been developed to determine the best suited for ruling the nation, while keeping its defences intact. The Aeonians refer to this as the ‘Celebratory Trials.’

Ethnic ratios:

Climate and lifestyle:

The Meritocracy in Aeonia is the driving force of the continent. Aeonia’s military force is said to be one of the best in the Evropi, with soldiers routinely sparring and drilling to keep in top formation. Every citizen of Aeonia strives to be the very best at their chosen occupation; to succeed brings fame, public recognition, and a comfortable lifestyle in an area restricted to the elite. Pressure is high for Aeonian citizens to reach these lofty expectations, and to maintain them once reached. Self sacrifice is often necessary to maintain these ideals.

long and dry summers and mild and rainy winters make up the main Aeonian climate. The spring and the fall are not very noticeable as like Prosphoron, Aeonia is primarily a coastal nation, with a more mountainous region close to the northern Katpatukan border.

Society:

Aeonia has a Meritocratic caste system, which consists of five different social strata:

The current Ruling Family, (usually the successors of the previous Coup).
Governing Officials and teachers, who are elected in due to performance within their area of Governance. Familial naming conventions revolve around their title of office.
Current successors of the Celebratory Trials and the families of Long-term previous successors, who have earned the right to a family name. They make up the Aeonian Aristocracy.
Artisans and craftsmen, priests, soldiers, business owners and merchants. These people are granted only a first name with a link to the town of their residency eg: “Jovan of Zalonika”
Farmers, servants and labourers. Tend to have only a single name used as an identifier.

The ruling family of Aeonia is the Dragash Dynasty, with its Monarch Stefanos Dragash currently on the Aeonian Throne.

The clothing in Aeonia is possibly on the more simple side, with the lower classes wearing simple tunics of rectangular fabrics pinned at the arm or shoulder, wrapped about the waist with a belted sash. Silk, linen, or wool is commonly used, it’s frequency depending on the wearer’s caste. Loose trousers of silk or fine linen tied at the ankle have been seen, along with long open waistcoats over short, wrapped upper garments, often finished with with a flat-topped hat, shaped similarly to a pie or shield. Woolen tunics or shawls are layered over the top in winter to maintain warmth and can be decorated as elaborately as other garments.  Decorative borders, beaded jewels and brightly coloured threads are common in the wear of upper echelon citizens, mostly painted on or dyed into the cloth with wax processes. Women and men typically wear sandals, slippers, soft shoes, or boots. At home, they commonly walk barefoot. Jewelry is commonly worn, used as a display of status, Aeonia has mountains that are rich in minerals, and studded with gems. Trinkets that reflect this flood the Abythos Bazaar.

Holy days and Sabbats are spread throughout the year to venerate particular Aeons, similar to the way Prosphorians worship. Aeonia has additional celebrations which are used as Proving grounds for those wishing to display their prowess in particular areas. Each one is dedicated to an Aeon who represents the thing being celebrated. Those who are successful in their placing at these competitive celebrations are permitted to live in the best areas of their cities, and recognised as local celebrities.. Until the next time it comes around.

Places of Note:

Skoupoi (Capital)
Skoupoi is located in the northern regions of Aeonia, built in a valley by the Axiopa river, which eventually flows through the country to end at  the sea. Skoupoi is an ethnically diverse city, and its urban sociology primarily depends on ethnic and religious belonging. Each ethnic group generally restricts itself to certain areas of the city, and those in turn are stratified by Caste. The city itself is a fortress, whose stone walls and strong gate are said to gleam in the light as if constantly polished… And knowing Aeonians, maybe they are.

Bazaar of Abythos
The Bazaar in the town of Abythos is one of the oldest and largest marketplaces on the continent of Evrópi. It has the been centre for and commerce in Aeonia. While Prosphoron has access to a variety of resources, the Aeonian Bazaar showcases the innovations produced within its borders, along with fresh produce, spices, and local cuisine.

The Face of Glory
Carved into the face of the Westernmost mountain to the north of Aeonia is a portrayal of Ennoia and Bythos. It is said that a hundred people could stand foot to shoulder and still not reach the top of this monument. Each year, a symposium is held in the shadow of these figures to celebrate the works of art, culture, and athleticism of the greatest the nation has to offer. Entry is reserved solely to those who can claim parentage from Aeonia - more than once a public execution has been put on display to warn away those who would seek to break this tradition. It is here the celebratory trials are hosted in the sight of the Aeons.

Vivliothíki (Large City)
Designed by an Aeonian scholar, Vivliothiki is the knowledge hub of Aeonia, and it is here that the country trains it’s mages, Philosophers and politicians. While other countries fluctuate in their opinion of these particular arts, Aeonia glorifies it’s best, as with any other skill. A plethora of scrolls are said to line the length of city walls, and nestled within secret alcoves is arcane knowledge untouched for a generation. Access is restricted to Aeonian citizens, and even then, a prospective scholar must prove their worth to even be allowed entry.

Please note:

Because Aeonia is a foreign nation to Prosphoron, which is our main country setting, the above has been written according to the knowledge and viewpoint of a Prosphorian person. Aeonian natives will have information which is not available in this guide.
